Japanese folklore and adventure

Bought as a Christmas present.This is a classic introduction Japanese anime for those who have never seen it before and is essential viewing for anime fans in general, though fans of animation and art would appreciate this as well.Based on a modern setting leading to 'Alice in Wonderland' story but with a Japanese folklore mythology makes this an original and creative masterpiece that has been loved by children and adults.

Amazing Anime!

Chihiro and her family get lost en-route to their new home, and wind up in what they erroneously believe is an old, abandoned amusement park. But come sunset, the 'park' takes on a very different persona, with all manner of weird and wonderful creatures and spirits appearing.The animation itself is quite amazing, with all the beauty and subtlety you would expect from an Asian film - chinese lanterns glowing at dusk, dragons flying into the night sky, rich oriental interiors, and a magical train that glides across the surface of the ocean.I do implore you to watch the original Japanese version with English subtitles, though, rather than the American dub, because the latter loses some of the nuances, and also contains 'plots spoilers' not apparent in the original language format (e.g telling you early on what the real function of the 'amusement park' is, rather than letting you discover for yourself by watching the story slowly unfold).A film that will be adored by children and adults alike, and, quite simply, one of the best animated features ever made.
